About The Hour of Our Destiny Series

September 11 plunged our nation into crisis. This series documents the move of God, the role of intercessory prayer, and the Spirit's wisdom, provision and protection in times of turmoil.

When the earth shifts and the sky drops on an entire nation, secure and impregnable, where is God?  When puny powers and petty madness of men can decimate the masses, Who is God?

Excerpt from All and Only:

“The Lord is in His Holy temple.”  God is on the throne. No one has ever usurped that throne.  No one ever will. Or ever could. No one thwarts Him, stops Him or stumps Him.

God is God . . . ruling and omnipotent.  He can do whatever, whenever and for whatever unstated purpose He deems right (p. 69, “Habakkuk”).

God is not the author of evil, nor the instigator of war.  Sin and Satan are the couple that breeds evil, but God Almighty is Over and Beyond.  He is still I AM . . . and that means He is Everything.

Isaiah 33 NIV
2. Lord, be gracious to us; we long for You.
Be our strength every morning,
our salvation in time of distress.
3. At the uproar of your army, the peoples flee;
when you rise up, the nations scatter.
5. The Lord is exalted, for He dwells on high;
He will fill Zion with justice and righteousness.
6. He will be the sure foundation
(NAS: stabilityfor your times,
a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge;
the fear of the Lord is the key to this treasure.

God is stability amidst shakings, holiness above evil, and the source of all our needs in this hour of distress.  To rest in the poise of His safety, to drink from the fountain of His sufficiency, we bask in the wonder of His dominion, the glory of His holy nature.  Who He is, is our security.

God’s throne is an absolute rule, a literal government of His reign above all.  And by knowing Who He is – Sovereign on His Throne and Perfect in His government – we gain a fearful reverence for Almighty, who does as He pleases, who alone is God (Psalm 115:6 and 135:6).

To know Him is to fear Him.
To have no fear of Him
is to know Him NOT.

He is God.  He reigns. He rules.  He had the first Word, the first Voice in the origin of the universe and He will have the Last and final Word at its finale.

God rules kings and despots but does so without violating our free will or our acquiescence to evil.  We choose and the Most High God accepts our choice but HE chooses also!  He chooses the consequence of our choice.

Fear of God is the entrance to His councils and safety in His presence.  He is God of all little gods, Lord of all ruling lords.  In this hour of utter uncertainty, we sort out our fears and our security.

Our Savior, Lord Jesus, told his disciples:

Do not be afraid of those who kill the body
but cannot kill the soul.
Rather, be afraid of the One who can
destroy both soul and body in hell.
Matt. 10:28 NIV

Immediately the Lord Jesus gave comfort and safety before such a Fearsome God, ruler of heaven and hell and Lord of human souls, yet also a Father of infinite love who cherishes His children to the inexplicable extreme . . .

Are not two sparrows sold for a penny?
Yet not one of them will fall to the ground
apart from the will of your Father.
And even the very hairs of your head
are all numbered.
So don’t be afraid;
you are worth more than many sparrows.

Matt. 10:29-31 NIV

The fear of God is the key to opening His great treasures: the most precious riches of life.  Great safety, blessing and purity, peace, and wisdom come from the fear of God.  Riches of God, protection and length of life . . .

Proverbs lists merely a few of the wonderful glories of fear and reverence of God:

  • 1:7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge;
  • 3:25 Do not be afraid of sudden fear, Nor of the onslaught of the wicked when it comes;
  • 8:13 The fear of the Lord is to hate evil;
  • 9:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
  • 10:27 The fear of the Lord prolongs life, But the years of the wicked will be shortened;
  • 14:26 In the fear of the Lord there is strong confidence, And his children will have refuge;
  • 14:27 The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, That one may avoid the snares of death;
  • 15:16 Better is a little with the fear of the Lord, Than great treasure and turmoil without it.
  • 15:33 The fear of the Lord is the instruction for wisdom;
  • 16:6 And by the fear of the Lord one keeps away from evil;
  • 19:23 The fear of the Lord {leads} to life, So that one may sleep satisfied, untouched by evil;
  • 14:27 The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, That one may avoid the snares of death;
  • 22:4 The reward of humility {and} the fear of the Lord Are riches, honor and life.

The nature of the Lord Jesus who adores His Father dwells in the Holy Spirit and as the Spirit rests on Him, He expresses “the Spirit of knowledge and of the reverential and obedient fear of the Lord . . . and His delight shall be in the reverential and obedient fear of the Lord (Isa. 11:3 Amplified).

Delight!  The fear of God is delight, not a horror, not a terror of His mean power!  That is ignorance of this Father-God.  Fear is the rich esteem of who He is by knowing His Awesome Being.  Fear of God is safety, blessing, purity, peace . . . riches in this life, and the next!

He will be the sure foundation (NAS: stability) for your times,
a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge;
the fear of the Lord is the key to this treasure (Is. 33:6 NIV).

Father in Heaven, we gather our fear of petty powers, our fears of evil and of humanity and lay them at your feet as sins of insult, sins of foolishness and worse, sins of rebellion against Your very character and throne.

We acknowledge You are God, sovereign and eternal.  The Only God, “You rule over the kingdoms of the nations. Power and might are in your hand and no one can withstand you” (2 Chron. 20:6).

Grant us the mercy of your forgiveness and transform us by imparting fear and reverence of You by the Spirit of Christ, in whom dwells such delight and joy in You through knowing Your great majesty.  Reveal Yourself to us and fill us with the awe and delight of Jesus!  By that fear of You, let us rest in the unknowable and the unforeseeable. You are our security!  We worship You as God, over all, real and present to us.

For His name’s sake and for His glory,
Amen.
