About What’s In A Name? Series

What's in a name? Names identify, explain, and serve to distinguish one from another. What do God's names reveal to us about Him, coming from Him?

Genesis 4:1-2 NASB
She conceived and gave birth to Cain,
and she said, “I have gotten a manchild
with the help of the Lord.”
Again she gave birth to his brother Abel.

Cain means ‘to possess, to provoke to jealousy.’

Abel simply means ‘the son of Adam’ or in its root meaning,
‘to become vain or transitory.’

From that time, every human being was given a name.
The names of people in Scripture are strangely prophetic,
pointing to their nature and destiny.

There is something about names that God loves. Of the billions and trillions of stars, to each one He gave a name!

Isaiah 40:26 NASB
Lift up your eyes on high And see who has created these stars, The One who leads forth their host by number, He calls them all by name…
