About The Mystery of Discipleship Series
Jesus’ closest disciples were trusted to speak for Him and tell us His story. All are called to the mystery of discipleship, but the choice is ours.
Luke 14:18-20 ESV
But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said to him ‘I have bought a field and I must go out and see it. Please have me excused.’
And another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to examine them. Please have me excused.’
And another said, ‘I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.’
These three stand for those invited-believers who prefer worldly life to divine culmination. The three areas of human entanglements are Possessions, Position, and People.
The first was occupied with the ownership of property. His roots and joys were in the earth. The second was concerned with his position in the world. The ox speaks of power and dominion. And the third put his wife, his love-relationship, above God.
You cannot love the world in daily preoccupation and see the Banquet when the time comes. The great Feast of the Lamb is to be anticipated and chosen, the joyful objective of this common life.
