About The Power of Obedience Series
Obedience is not just a reflexive performance of God’s will. It is richer than we know, and its power is known by too few. Would you be one of them?
Because you did not serve the Lord your God with joy and a glad heart, for the abundance of all things; therefore you shall serve your enemies whom the Lord will send against you, in hunger, in thirst, in nakedness, and in the lack of all things; and He will put an iron yoke on your neck until He has destroyed you.
Deuteronomy 28:47-48 NASB
The Lord was saying, “Martha, you faithfully do My will. You will always obey Me. You did so here in this situation. But you believe My will is the absolute hardest thing and that the ‘screaming woman’ is proof of your belief that whatever I ask of you will be the worst of all things. I don’t want you just to obey me as a grim obligation but to delight in My Will. There are severe consequences for the failure to obey Me WITH JOY. I demand obedience and I also require delight.”
I could see that I was already serving my enemies with an iron yoke around my neck. My obedience had not been enough to please God, or to represent Him. And I repented deeply of thinking so poorly of my wonderful God, my splendid Lord. I deeply chose that very day to delight in God’s will and the Holy Spirit has worked to give me His own joy and delight whenever I utterly surrender to God’s choices.
