Hebrews 12:2 AMPC (emphasis mine)
Looking away [from all that will distract] to Jesus, Who is the Leader and the Source of our faith and is also its Finisher [bringing it to maturity and perfection].
ESV translates this as: Jesus Who is the ‘founder’ of our faith.
Amplified says He is the ‘Leader and Source’ of faith.
NASB uses ‘source’ of our faith.
NLT uses “champion who initiates our faith.”
To know the actual meaning is crucial because this verse is the how-to of acquiring faith. The actual word means “Originator, founder, leader, beginning.” It clearly means Jesus is the Originator of faith. He is the beginning of Faith in the same way that He was the Creator of the world. All things come from Him, especially faith.
Faith in God does not reside in us to be awakened.
Faith must come entirely from Christ. He does not ‘lead’ us to faith; He leads us to look to Him for faith.
He is the Source of faith and that means He alone possesses faith. For us to have faith it must come from Him. Now that’s a relief! I have looked for faith in me, in the Bible, in books and truths, but Jesus is the Originator of faith and He will convey it to me simply by my looking to Him for it. How easy!
