Matthew 26:13 and Mark 14:9 ESV
Truly, I say to you, wherever this gospel in proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her.
There is one who is a living picture of beholding Christ, just one who was praised for that single focus.
In all the New Testament, only one was memorialized for all of time, to be remembered wherever the gospel was proclaimed! And this was Jesus’ command, the only one of its kind.
No one else – no apostle, nor the mother, not even John the beloved – was so exalted and given eternal significance.
Mary of Bethany did nothing great. So quiet was she that only one sentence is recorded of her, and that was a question of Jesus…again, looking solely to Him.
(From Adoration, “The Gaze of the Soul,” p. 121)
Mary filled her sight with Jesus. The eye of her being
had no double vision, seeing the world and God…both. She saw with concentration, one Object,
the Important, ignoring the unimportant.
