About What’s In A Name? Series

What's in a name? Names identify, explain, and serve to distinguish one from another. What do God's names reveal to us about Him, coming from Him?

Devotional

Genesis 16:16 AMPC
Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore Ishmael.

Numbers in Scripture tell the story, the spiritual story. The number eight is “one who abounds in strength.” Six “has to do with man; it is the number of imperfection, the number of MAN as destitute of God…” (*Numbers in Scripture by E. W. Bullinger).

We all are driven by human strength to perform, instead of God, that which God cannot receive because it is not from God. God cannot receive what is human and not divine.

We all have our Ishmael, the product of our banished human self. And we love ‘it,’ even when we come to see it has cost us…God!

And it has also lost me, myself.
