LET. Wielded by the Holy Spirit, this tiny word had a huge impact on Martha’s life, and the adventure can be yours, too, if you just LET God be GOD.

Vicki Harris, a missionary in Vienna, went to numerous concentration camps. When we visited her, she drove John and I to Mauthausen concentration camp in Austria, now open as an exhibit. It was, of course, the darkest place I had ever been. I never dreamed I would stand in front of those heinous ovens, gaze into the poison showers, stand on the long stone steps where many fell to their deaths carrying huge stones – or were pushed by Nazi guards. Nor that I would walk on the green grass that covered graves of thousands. And more that I can’t speak of.
I simply couldn’t bear it.
Privately, with great anguish, I cried out to my God, “Where were You? Where were You in this hellish place? I know You had to have been here. You could not have left those people without Your help. But where were You?!”
And He spoke with a steadying kindness. “I was here.” And I knew that inside those words were volumes of unknown stories of God’s presence and salvation, of Light overcoming and dispelling the darkness. Stories we won’t know till Heaven.
God is LIGHT and wherever darkness is, LIGHT must shine!
