1 John 1:6 AMPC
[So] if we say we are partakers together and enjoy fellowship with Him when we live and move and are walking about in darkness, we are [both] speaking falsely and do not live and practice the Truth [which the Gospel presents].
John the Beloved was the expert on Light – Jesus! – and by contrast, he knew darkness. 1 John is his book about light versus darkness—how to measure them, what their characteristics were, the effect of both, the evidence of each. So must we also be so clear in Light as to discern darkness in whatever form it takes.
Light is Life and darkness is death. Therefore, Life is Jesus and death is Satan.
According to verse 6, darkness is about lies. To lie and speak lies is to dwell in darkness. That is the most essential clue to the nature of darkness. Simply lies. Also, the verse indicates that a life of lies cannot and will not “practice the Truth which the Gospel presents.”
