1 John 1:6 AMPC
[So] if we say that we are partakers together and enjoy fellowship with Him, when we live and move and are walking about in darkness, we are [both] speaking falsely and do not live and practice the Truth [which the Gospel presents].
John, who enjoyed the closest relationship with Jesus, is always about fellowship. His whole idea of the gospel is relationship, which is “sonship.”
In this letter he gives us the goal of fellowship and the way to fellowship. John writes “enjoy fellowship with Him.” That is the fellowship on which he focuses and what he seeks for believers in this letter. He knows the great joy of the nearness of Christ. It is the man’s base and foundation and he wants all believers to have such joy.
No Truth, No Fellowship
John, the great expert on intimacy with Christ, indicates that one who lives lying and speaks falsely could not possibly have a genuine relationship with Him Who is Truth and in Whom there is nothing whatever false. Even the claim to companionship with Christ is a lie. Remember, the basis of darkness is the lie.
We learn volumes by this one statement. To know Christ and be close to Him, we cannot walk – that is live and move – in lies and deception. Christ, the Truth, cannot fellowship with a liar.
