About What’s In A Name? Series

What's in a name? Names identify, explain, and serve to distinguish one from another. What do God's names reveal to us about Him, coming from Him?

Genesis 17:1 AMPC
When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him…

Again, numbers in Scripture tell the story, the real story. Nine “marks the completeness, the end and issue of all things as to man – the judgment of man and all his works” (Number in Scripture by E. W. Bullinger).

Between 86 and 99 were 13 years of judgment for Abram.

Abram loved God’s promise and he would not wait; he had to help it happen. His ‘strength’ had created his own blessing, yet it blocked the man from simply receiving the promise…as a gift! Supernatural – not humanly explainable.

Those long 13 years were apparently without God’s intense presence. Abram, though he loved his Ishmael, had come to recognize his own reckless folly and his unfixable mess.

The displeasure of God was clear. And Abram understood. Now God could appear to the man again.
