About The Mystery of Discipleship Series
Jesus’ closest disciples were trusted to speak for Him and tell us His story. All are called to the mystery of discipleship, but the choice is ours.
Luke 14:26 NIV
If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters—yes even his own life—he cannot be My disciple.
You can be a teacher yet not a disciple. You can have any ministry and yet not be a disciple. The condition for discipleship is not education, revelation, brilliance or sacrifice—not even anointing. The major condition of discipleship is to ‘hate’ father, mother, sister, brother, wife and children.
Only to the disciples was given the authority of power: healing, deliverance, and miracles. Only disciples were that small group of 120, who were able to be in such union of prayer that the Holy Spirit could fall upon them all. Only disciples could possibly BE in such union for those long days of prayer and waiting.
It was the disciples who wrote for Jesus, about Him. Only His intimate disciples were trusted to speak for Him and tell His story to us. And…only disciples are commissioned to ‘make disciples of all nations.’
John’s epistle ends this way (21:24-25): “This is the disciple who testifies to these things and who wrote them down. We know that his testimony is true.
Jesus did many other things as well. I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.”
The disciple experiences his own living history of Christ, entire books of things Jesus did in his life…
