LET. Wielded by the Holy Spirit, this tiny word had a huge impact on Martha’s life, and the adventure can be yours, too, if you just LET God be GOD.
Devotional
Matthew 3:8 AMPC
Bring forth fruit that is consistent with repentance [let your lives prove your change of heart]…
We need to see the context of Luke 13:3 from yesterday’s devotional. On that occasion, Jesus was speaking to the crowds and not to His followers. He said, “Hypocrites, why do you not analyze this present time?”
Some in the crowd asked Him about an incident that is not explained. Apparently some Galilean people were slain by Pilate’s soldiers while offering sacrifices at the Temple. It seems these questioners were implying that their deaths were because of unrighteousness.
Jesus’ answer is that the real issue for all is repentance.
I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all perish.
Luke 13:3
Today in the world of Christendom we have salvation without repentance. Repentance is a condition for salvation and Jesus is saying here that if anyone has never repented and is unwilling to repent, they will perish eternally. We receive Christ as Savior only when we will be sinners who desperately need a Savior. Many want Jesus as friend and helper for His blessings, but unless He is Savior there is no salvation.
Fruit from Repentance
The parable that follows means that God looks for fruit and fruit is the proof of repentance (Luke 13:6-9). Only repentance leads to Life and only repentance keeps Life rising and flourishing. Life produces fruit just naturally.
“You shall know them by their fruits” (Matt. 7:20).
Repentance removes the veil of sin that separates us from God.
