About The Mystery of Discipleship Series
Jesus’ closest disciples were trusted to speak for Him and tell us His story. All are called to the mystery of discipleship, but the choice is ours.
Matthew 4:18-20 NASB
Now as Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon who was called Peter, and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. And He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Immediately they left their nets and followed Him.
The fishermen had seen Jesus’ miracles and heard Him speak. He had ministered many miracles in the area around the Sea. They did not instantly abandon their family, home, property and livelihood for a whim. Their hearts had already been captured, and they went by no ambition because there was no promise of greatness. They did not follow out of logic, as there was no time to calculate.
“Immediately” they left all and went wherever this One who invited led them. They joined—not fully understanding who the Man was, not knowing the destination, and having no concept of the future implications of the calling. They abandoned all, simply…to be WITH Him!
This is the model and order for a disciple. Seeing, knowing, loving…hearing, leaving all, following blindly. Unequivocal abandonment, holding on to nothing.
