About What’s In A Name? Series
What's in a name? Names identify, explain, and serve to distinguish one from another. What do God's names reveal to us about Him, coming from Him?
“Walk before Me…”
‘Before’ has many nuances and roots. Yesterday we explored the root ‘turn,’ yet another root is ‘face.’ So ‘before’ means turn and come face to face with God.
To see one’s face is to look into their heart. The countenance tells all. David speaks, “When You said, ‘Seek My face,’ my heart said to You, ‘Your face, O Lord, I shall seek’” (Psalm 27:8).
God wants us so close to Him as to be aware of His attitude behind His words. His attitude is His heart-view of each of us as an individual. You alone before Him. You only, He is seeing.
By drawing near to Him, you sense – in your spirit – His emotion toward you. Yes! David was a man after God’s heart and he “saw the Lord always before” him (2 Chron. 16:11; Ps. 16:8; Acts 2:25).
