About The Mystery of Discipleship Series
Jesus’ closest disciples were trusted to speak for Him and tell us His story. All are called to the mystery of discipleship, but the choice is ours.
Luke 14:26 NIV
If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters—yes even his own life—he cannot be My disciple.
Christ alone could obey this in perfect balance, and Christ within you walks this out in real life, in God’s timing and His ways.
Many negate this verse by believing it is cruel to family, to whom Christ called us to love. They believe it contradicts His other commands. What we cannot know until we obey the Lord when He calls for this, is that it is profound love FOR them. To choose Christ’s dominion and refuse anyone – no matter how dear – from usurping God’s place, is often to bring Christ into their lives.
Peter left all for Jesus, but the Lord later had a ministry to Peter’s family when the mother-in-law was healed. Then she rose to serve those who followed Jesus. Also Jesus sent the disciples out to minister, and then He went to their own villages to preach. If we radically follow God, He follows our loved ones.
To choose Jesus often brings Jesus home.
