About The Road to Union Series
The new creation exists in union with Jesus and the Father—a fact. Yet the road to union isn't based on attainment, but revelation and realization.
Romans 7:19 AMPC
For I fail to practice the good deeds I desire to do, but the evil deeds that I do not desire to do are what I am [ever] doing.
This dilemma Paul describes is not a failure before people; it has nothing to do with what people think or gaining their approval. And it is not necessarily a collapse morally.
It is the inner knowledge, from living before God’s presence, that you do not live His standard. It’s a secret, heart despair – “I cannot be or do what You want of me, Lord.” This is a crisis of spiritual integrity and it can happen in the midst of a successful walk with God, as well as in a true failure. The issue is entirely between you and God. You know that your heart and thoughts, your actions and efforts, fall short of His loveliness, and this insolvable failure becomes unbearable.
This particular crisis happens only to the truly obedient, ironically only to the faithful. It is the inevitable experience of those who truly want to follow God – like Paul!
