The new creation exists in union with Jesus and the Father—a fact. Yet the road to union isn't based on attainment, but revelation and realization.

Reading Romans 7 (AMP):
22 For I endorse and delight in the Law of God in my inmost self (with my new nature).
23 But I discern in my bodily members (in the sensitive appetites and wills of the flesh) a different law (rule of action) at war against the law of my mind (my reason) and making me a prison to the law of sin that dwells in my bodily organs (in the sensitive appetites and wills of the flesh).
Paul was a man who knew the Law of God, both from heritage and now from the indwelling Christ. But he met another law – also always in operation – within himself. The law of sin.
Adam and Eve birthed into humanity not just sin but the LAW of sin, a force of sin. And that force – being a law – is powerful in its determination. That law of sin we inherited – living in human nature, always demanding its way – is the Adamic independence that thrives as an insatiable lust within us.
Paul’s dilemma was that there existed within him two powerful Laws at war with each other: the Law-of-God and the law-of-sin. That ever-present war became a prison for this great man.
