About The Mystery of Discipleship Series
Jesus’ closest disciples were trusted to speak for Him and tell us His story. All are called to the mystery of discipleship, but the choice is ours.
Isaiah 11:2 AMPC
And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him—the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the reverential and obedient fear of the Lord—
Our human bond to family is a liaison embedded in our soul, so deep and hidden in our very identity that its roots are too complex for our mastery. We do not possess ‘wisdom and understanding’ of our own selves, much less our family ties!
This calling to ‘hate’ family is a command, but more, it is an intricate process of the Holy Spirit who alone knows the heart of our loyalties and bondages.
So the Spirit of Christ leads the disciple into the maze of appropriate separation from family. The one who follows the Lamb will hear and know instinctively the Voice of the Savior’s jealousy to be First, All, Only. The Father has His own order and perfect timing through His brilliant counsel. It is purely individual, not accomplished in one swift dealing. This one call can take years of dealings at God’s instigation.
On my part, it is simple. One small or huge step at a time, as the Lord unveils His will. On the Lord’s part, it is a great and complex process in which He leads, reveals and accomplishes until Christ is fully All: my Father, Mother, sister, brother, friend and lover…till every relationship need is placed in Him.
His call is absolute and severe but His patience is astounding. “He knoweth we are dust.”
