About The Mystery of Discipleship Series
Jesus’ closest disciples were trusted to speak for Him and tell us His story. All are called to the mystery of discipleship, but the choice is ours.
Galatians 3:26-28 NASB
For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
To ‘hate’ family (Luke 14) is to identify yourself utterly with God as your blood relationship in Christ Jesus. It is a change of your concept of yourself because of the real change in your human standing wrought by Jesus. You are now God’s family on this earth!
The most subtle leaving of family, however, is to leave your ethnic identity – the larger family of origin. Francis Frangipane said, “I used to be Italian.” It is a profound statement! And rarely made by any Christian. Now there is neither Jew nor Gentile. Neither English nor Australian.
Paul, who was a Jew of Jews, made the above statement to the Galatians. He had left all his Jewish identification and roots, all his Jewish traditions and allowed his knowledge and world to be completely restructured as a son of God. He had one family by having one loyalty, one Father. One Lord!
When our identity is seen as fully in God, only in Christ, then we enjoy amazing oneness with the eternal Body of Christ as true family. Across every boundary, over every other identification, we are bound and secure as ‘one family.’
