About Finding the New You Series

Revelation is given in the practical places. Every life experience is buried treasure for discovery of who God is and what Jesus has given: a whole, new YOU.

Colossians 3:5, 8 AMPC
So kill (deaden, deprive of power) the evil desire lurking in your members…sexual vice, impurity, sensual appetites, unholy desires, and all greed and covetousness, for that is idolatry (the deifying of self and other created things instead of God).

But now put away and rid yourselves (completely) of all these things: anger, rage, bad feeling toward others, curses and slander and foulmouthed abuse and shameful utterances from your lips.

To put off the old self is to be rid of the incessant sin of that self. It’s a giddy possibility but Paul seems to hold it out as the simple norm. What he presents as an absolute solution – and an unbending demand – we skim as a sheer impossibility.
