About What’s In A Name? Series

What's in a name? Names identify, explain, and serve to distinguish one from another. What do God's names reveal to us about Him, coming from Him?

Genesis 17:5 ESV
I have made you the father of a multitude of nations.

Imagine Abraham’s bewilderment. After all the “I WILLS” of God’s intention and stated plan, this is not a future somewhere thing He will accomplish. There is no “I WILL.” It is a fact, stated as finished, not yet-to-be but amazingly done.

When God gives a promise, it is not a possibility or a probability. A promise is His command to the universe… As soon as He conceived it and spoke it, it was made in the distant past and could not be otherwise. How?

Because it was finished before time, when He dreamed it. And created the moment He spoke it.

And when we can trust Him that this is the case – true and actual, not probable or hopeful  – then THAT is a living faith that smiles at impossibilities.
