About The Mystery of Discipleship Series
Jesus’ closest disciples were trusted to speak for Him and tell us His story. All are called to the mystery of discipleship, but the choice is ours.
John 21:17 NASB
“Simon, son of John, do you love Me?”
This is the most terrible question possible to the one who has beheld the Son of God and loved Him with passion. This question hangs over us all, and God sees the answer in all our relationships and all situations of relationship. What we love will come out. For all the love Peter felt for Christ, he loved himself the most. Yet Christ knew that by the Holy Spirit, Peter would be infused with such love that he would eventually die for His sake. Jesus trusted Peter with His sheep, because He saw the direction and desire of love, and He knew the coming power of the Spirit was the power TO LOVE HIM.
Peter’s love was merely human, great though it was. The Love of God for the Son is “shed abroad in the heart by the Holy Spirit” and it is a love-absolute, a supernatural un-human passion that will carry and propel, enervate and transform!
