About What’s In A Name? Series

What's in a name? Names identify, explain, and serve to distinguish one from another. What do God's names reveal to us about Him, coming from Him?

Devotional

Genesis 17:1 CJB
When Avram was 99 years old Adonai appeared to Avram and said to him, “I am El Shaddai [God Almighty]. Walk in my presence and be pure-hearted.”

Remember Adonai? Master, Owner. Abram was a man owned but until now, not a man who knew El Shaddai. This occasion was the first time humanity was introduced to the God of all might, all power.

El Shaddai: El is God, “all powerful.” Shaddai means “sufficient, or self-sufficient.” God Almighty.

El Shaddai is the God Who is all powerful within Himself. He needs no help and no helper. Abram tried to help God fulfill God’s promise and it ended in suffering and discord for everyone.

El Shaddai says,

I AM…the One who needs no help.
I AM…sufficient in Myself for all I will.
