About The Mystery of Discipleship Series
Jesus’ closest disciples were trusted to speak for Him and tell us His story. All are called to the mystery of discipleship, but the choice is ours.
Luke 14:26 AMPC
If any man comes to Me and does not hate…[yes] and even his own life also—he cannot be My disciple.”
Oswald Chambers said, “Salvation and discipleship are not the same thing.”
The difference between the follower and the disciple is simply love. Humanity was created to adore with absolute passion. It is in our very marrow. But we are capable of corrupting our soul with self-love.
Oswald Chambers’ inspired words are always as absolute as is God. About this passage, he wrote this: “our love for Him must be overwhelmingly more passionate than every devoted relationship.”
The last bastion of human passion is the greatest love, the one Jesus mentions last. The one that lies behind every motive and choice. The one that rules me until I come to hate, at last, my infatuation with my soul-self.
