About The Road to Union Series
The new creation exists in union with Jesus and the Father—a fact. Yet the road to union isn't based on attainment, but revelation and realization.
Romans 8:2 NASB
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.
Many will never enter the freeing experience of life IN Christ. It is available to all who are born again, so why do so few ever enter it?
To reckon yourself dead, you have to give up – let go – and relinquish your own life: your rights, your way, your ability. We come to this only through despair in the ability of self. Before you can accept your co-death with Christ, you have to know you NEED it desperately. That’s the point of Romans 7.
Some will come to the despair, the recognition of need, but are never willing to give up pleasing themselves and having their own way. To count yourself dead, you have to WANT to BE dead.
Though the freedom is offered, you are free to keep your old self if that’s what you really want.
To “count yourself dead in Christ” stands as a choice. You do not automatically enter it. You must need it, want it and choose it to ever possess its reality.
