About The Road to Union Series

The new creation exists in union with Jesus and the Father—a fact. Yet the road to union isn't based on attainment, but revelation and realization.

Devotional

Romans 8:1 AMPC
Therefore, [there is] now no condemnation (no adjudging guilty of wrong) for those who are in Christ Jesus, who live [and] walk not after the dictates of the flesh, but after the dictates of the Spirit.

There is a popular but grave misuse of this verse. This is the mistake: “God doesn’t condemn you no matter what you do” – with the inference that you can do badly and God will not condemn you because Christ died. But this is not at all what the verse means.

The Amplified Bible renders it correctly. The absence of condemnation is only over the life that is lived IN Christ Jesus, BY Him. The horrible cross is the picture of God’s judgment on the ‘old man.’ God ever and always condemns the Adamic nature. That has not changed and never will. Nothing of the ‘old man’ is acceptable to God.

But when we are born again from above, we are born INTO Christ. Then it becomes a matter of discovering the solution of God in Christ and coming to live IN Him—by faith.

Watchman Nee:
“God accepts us only in His Beloved One – even in Christ. None can be accepted by God outside of Christ, for God can only receive and accept us in Him.”
