PrintAbout The Mystery of Discipleship Series
Jesus’ closest disciples were trusted to speak for Him and tell us His story. All are called to the mystery of discipleship, but the choice is ours.
Devotional
Luke 7:44-46 ESV
Then turning toward the woman He said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave Me no water for My feet, but she has wet My feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair.
You gave Me no kiss, but from the time I came in she has not ceased to kiss My feet.
You did not anoint My head with oil, but she has anointed My feet with ointment.”
We can never comprehend love unless we have seen our complete lack of it.
For Simon to understand what he was seeing in this woman, Jesus had to show the man what was NOT in him. Simon had not extended even the basic common courtesies to Jesus as a guest in his house. It had revealed the petty smallness of the man’s heart and the contempt he had for the Son of God.
Passion for Christ is ridiculous to those who have not even natural love, whose hearts are void of simple human empathy.
