About What’s In A Name? Series

What's in a name? Names identify, explain, and serve to distinguish one from another. What do God's names reveal to us about Him, coming from Him?

Genesis is strangely void of any measure of time. Events happen beyond a framework of time. By time I mean our restricted sphere of known hours, days, years – where everything fits into intervals.

In Genesis, we know nothing of the passage of time for the entire story – how long “the man’s” task lasted. There was no search for the creatures.
They were brought to “the man” by God Himself.

Did he seek to know each creature and name it by its identity?
Did he commune with God to understand first?
How fascinating!

A name is a serious matter.

God puts all of purpose and destiny
into that which bears His chosen name. The name bespeaks a history.
