About Meeting Adonai Series
God moves radically toward us and deals mightily with us when we see and receive Him as Adonai. Meeting Adonai, Owner and Master, changes everything.
Genesis 15:2 exegesis Bible
And Abram said, Lord GOD Adonay Yah Veh…
Adonai is a name with an unusual element in it that implies a responsibility on the part of mankind. While we are owned, we are free to refuse to BE owned. Ownership is God’s right and our privilege, but it is also an entirely free choice.
Abram – a man called by God – became a man OWNED by God. Abram did not choose to be called but he was responsible to choose to be owned, to know God as Adonai: Master, Owner.
So when Abram exclaimed Adonay Yah Veh, he was saying he knew the God Who is Owner. “I freely consent to be an owned one.”
The apostle Paul was not born a slave. He was a prominent, educated man. But when he came to know Jesus Christ, he gave his all to Him and named himself a bondslave, one who would never – so long as he lived – be free of Christ’s dominion and ownership. By love and the desire from love, Paul gave up all his rights and possessions, all his time and energy, to serve the One who bought him!
