About All Things New Series
We like the familiar by thinking it's 'all there is.' God is the Creator, exploding with imagination and bursting with plans, unexpected and beyond our dreams. Are we ready? Will we receive the new?
Ephesians 4:20-24a NASB
But you did not learn Christ in this way, if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught in Him, just as truth is in Jesus, that in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and PUT ON THE NEW SELF…
The “truth in Jesus” was clear to the first believers: those born again in Christ have a NEW SELF.
This entirely ‘new person’ was the foundational fact they had “heard Him” and also been “taught in Him.” Knowing this and having “put on the new self” accounts for the phenomenal life as pictured in Acts.
In Ephesians, Paul called the church back to the foundation, to the basis of living the Christian life: WE ARE NEW. We need to hear from Him that we are new. We need to be “taught in Him” this constant, strange reality: WE ARE NEW.
