About The Mystery of Discipleship Series
Jesus’ closest disciples were trusted to speak for Him and tell us His story. All are called to the mystery of discipleship, but the choice is ours.
Luke 14:27 NASB
Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.
The Bible is so brilliant that it takes the mind and counsel of God to break open the treasure. The sections flow from one jeweled Truth to another, each one picturing the last and amplifying the whole. Scripture explains scripture in the most wonderful way. May the Father give us eyes and ears for His Word!
Luke 14 is a complete picture of discipleship, and this verse is the core topic of the whole. Discipleship is determined by the acceptance of the cross. And the woman is a real story of disciple abandonment and her secret is love-from-forgiveness.
Of what the woman who washed Jesus’ feet repented, we are not told. Her repentance and God’s forgiveness have erased all of it forever. But Luke 15 – the parable of the prodigal – is the most vivid picture of repentance, setting forth the process, the sequence and the result!
(Since I deal verse by verse and topic by topic, my spirit just wanted to stop and look with awe at the bigger picture: the marvel of His Bible!)
