About The Mystery of Discipleship Series
Jesus’ closest disciples were trusted to speak for Him and tell us His story. All are called to the mystery of discipleship, but the choice is ours.
Reading Luke 14:28-32 NASB
28. For which one of you, when he wants to build a tower, does not first sit down and calculate the cost to see if he has enough to complete it?
31. Or what king, when he sets out to meet another king in battle, will not first sit down and consider whether he is strong enough with ten thousand men to encounter the one coming against him with twenty thousand?
The Lord Jesus Christ is so perfect in integrity that He gives you always the cost of the call. There are two aspects to discipleship: building and fighting. You see it in Nehemiah. You see it in Paul. He was ever both building the church and fighting the enemy.
So Luke records Jesus’ warning of the cost of the call. Not so much ‘count the cost’ and then decide, but KNOW the cost: it is and will be…everything! Discipleship will cost you everything you are and all that you possess.
- You will spend all to build God’s will on earth for your destiny.
- It will be war against an enemy stronger (twice as many) than you with whom you may not compromise nor ever ‘make peace.’
The secret is this: it is what you were created to do. It is your great (and only) adventure in this life…to build God’s will on earth and to defeat His enemy in battle. It requires everything of you, but the other secret is that everything is supplied to you in Christ! Oh, what a small price is discipleship compared with the exceeding great reward of knowing HIM.
