About Lost Way Series
We search for what we do not know, driven by what we cannot recognize. What is life about? There is a way, the lost way, with answers for us all.
After the Temptation and before the miracles, Jesus preached a sermon with a subject and a condition:
From that time Jesus began to preach and say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
Matthew 4:17 NASB
The subject was the Kingdom. The condition to see and enter the Kingdom was repentance.
Repentance begins with total responsibility for sin without blame or excuse. But true repentance moves to “I AM a sinner; it is my very nature that is the problem. I sin because of WHO I am, not WHAT I do. ”
But the very bottom of sin is this: I do not love God. That is the first command of His heart and His entire purpose. God IS Love. To love Him solves everything. The root of any spiritual problem is simply a failure to love God.
As one brother said, “I tried to love God with service and obedience but I don’t and can’t love Him.” Sin is actually the failure to love God with all you are and have. All other sins are results, not the cause. The cause of sin was that Adam and Eve chose to love self instead of God.
The love of self is the true idolatry, and it means separation from God and His pleasure. When you love your self, you are left alone with your self.
