About The Mystery of Discipleship Series
Jesus’ closest disciples were trusted to speak for Him and tell us His story. All are called to the mystery of discipleship, but the choice is ours.
In Luke 14, Jesus actually gave two parables. In verse 12-14, the Lord Jesus sets the stage, the call and the reward for our relationships and our outreach.
Luke 14:13 NASB But when you give a reception, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind…
This is not merely literal. It is a picture of the needy. Those who are needy, who are “poor in spirit,” who are crushed by suffering, crippled by life and unable to understand or see God rightly.
The needy…the desperate. These very ones were willing to see, recognize and follow Jesus. And these are the very ones to whom we offer the ‘food of Life,’ for they are the only ones who will ‘eat,’ because they are the truly hungry.
The strong, the mighty, the capable, the independent—these are not crippled or poor and so are not hungry.
