About The Mystery of Discipleship Series
Jesus’ closest disciples were trusted to speak for Him and tell us His story. All are called to the mystery of discipleship, but the choice is ours.
Philippians 3:18 NASB
For many walk, of whom I often told you, and now tell you even weeping, that they are enemies of the cross of Christ…
Nee wrote that you can be a friend of Jesus but an enemy of the Cross.
It is possible to survive the Cross without dying when it comes. “Many,” said Paul (and he is speaking to the Church), fortress their hearts against suffering and will not relinquish rights or control. They are enemies of the Cross.
Some are able to surrender with a measured bowing, but at the core of it, refuse to die to Self. Some, by sheer human endurance, just refuse to be conquered. These emerge with false spirituality, secret bitterness and hardened hearts. I have seen believers go through the most terrible experiences and never die into letting Christ become actual King of all.
The Cross is the dividing line between believer and disciple. The Cross is the bond of fellowship…or the obstacle to Body life.
