About The Mystery of Discipleship Series
Jesus’ closest disciples were trusted to speak for Him and tell us His story. All are called to the mystery of discipleship, but the choice is ours.
Ephesians 2:21b AMPC
…a holy temple in the Lord [a sanctuary dedicated, consecrated and sacred to the presence of the Lord].
Church is to be a place where the actual presence of the Lord is evident—His words, His Life, His gifts. Each one is to bring the presence of the Lord. And His presence only accompanies His Lordship.
There are two problems with church today. One is that the presence of the Lord is utterly missing from church meetings. But the second is probably more dangerous. It is the soulish counterfeit that purports to be His presence but is actually the pompous activity of flesh, pretending to be spiritual.
The cross eliminates the soul, so to avoid the cross is to remain tragically soulish. And the damage of soulish activity is to prevent the Church from manifesting the real presence of Christ.
T. Austin-Sparks writes: “You can have everything that is in the New Testament counterfeited in the realm of the soul, the psychical. The people who dwell in the realm of their souls become a complete contradiction to what true life in the spirit is, and oh, what havoc the devil has made; what confusion, what chaos and what dishonor to the Lord along that line!”
