Jesus’ closest disciples were trusted to speak for Him and tell us His story. All are called to the mystery of discipleship, but the choice is ours.

Reading Matthew 4: The Temptation of Jesus
Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.’”
(Verses 1 and 4, NASB)
Jesus defeated Satan by His faith in the Word of God. His faith came from His surrender to the Voice of God out of the Word of God. He was not using Scripture as a magic sword. It was the precept of God from the Voice of God, and He answered with His own surrender from His oneness with God. He would not be separated from His Father.
Jesus’ sword was the Word to which He had bowed. His faith and surrender to God were the victory. Not fighting, not striving, but rather His simple allegiance to WHO God is.
Paul said we are more than conquerors through HIM… It was about the Person of God that Jesus answered His tempter.
And the devil departed, defeated.
