About The Mystery of Discipleship Series
Jesus’ closest disciples were trusted to speak for Him and tell us His story. All are called to the mystery of discipleship, but the choice is ours.
1 John 2:15-17 ESV
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world – the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions – is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.
A mixed life that wants to love both the world and love the Lord is insipid and flat – without that strange zing of the Lord’s ‘otherness.’ And the disciple becomes worthless. It reminds me of John 15: “he is thrown away like a branch and withers.”
I can say with deep knowledge that the Lord hates mixture and desires complete consecration to Him. I can say the Lord is ever after the sand of my compromise, my mixture with the world by wanting something for ME.
How is saltiness restored? By owning/controlling nothing. Giving up ownership and control. And by being utterly owned and controlled by the Lord.
Pure consecration is pure joy…and a sparkling power we cannot imagine.
