Hebrews 12:2 NASB
Fixing our eyes on Jesus…
It strikes me that in this verse (accurate translation) fixing our eyes is plural—both eyes.
‘EYES’ plural. Why? Because our mind and emotion have the capacity to see several things at once, to conceive of more than one direction and many objects at the same time. To turn is obviously a choice! My choice. What I look toward is my responsibility. To fix your eyes means you have to choose what will be your one focus, and you choose continually.
Always this strange life with God means we have that ancient freedom given in Eden: the right to choose Life…or Knowledge, which is death.
To fix your gaze on the Person, Christ, is to have chosen LIFE. And that Life flows with faith from God.
