About The Mystery of Discipleship Series
Jesus’ closest disciples were trusted to speak for Him and tell us His story. All are called to the mystery of discipleship, but the choice is ours.
Matthew 4:20 Immediately they left their nets and followed Him.
Matthew 4:22 Immediately they left their father and their boat and followed Him.
Mark 1:20 Immediately He called them and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants and went away to follow Him.
Why did the disciples just drop everything and immediately follow Jesus? Why did the disciples become disciples?
It’s true they witnessed His miracles in Galilee. They had seen His power. But it was the personal, individual love of Christ that captured them. They loved Him because He first loved them. They felt it; they experienced the presence of a Great Love. And they followed this Source of Love. Love is the impelling force of discipleship.
Life is about love. Motive is about love: whatever we perceive as love, that will be WHY we do and WHERE we go.
The Lord Jesus would draw us out and beyond ourselves into the fathomless realm of His Love. THAT is what makes a disciple. Not one who leaves career or family for a cause, but one who follows Love because of Love, for the sake of Love.
Miss/Reject/Refuse/Despise the Love of Christ and you will never follow radically, completely and foolishly…the Son of God.
